Hillside Gardening in Cedar Hills {Including a Unique Deck Design}

Location: SW Portland, Oregon Landscape Design: Alana Chau and Carol Lindsey for Landscape Design in a Day created the original design. The clients, Tula and Ashley, have been instrumental in the evolution of this garden and have added many plant gems - it is a delight to visit each year.

Check out Tula's photographs of the many blooms and textures in this garden here. And while you're there you might navigate to the home page and enjoy some of the most inspiring photos of the pacific northwest wilderness that I've ever seen.

Ashley's words perfectly describe why I love creating gardens: "It’s the happiest place on earth for us. The Daphne scent fills the air, golden hour light on all the gorgeous plants and wildlife and the sounds of bird song and new life….."

April of Year 2: Hillside gardening presents unique challenges, such as creating useable areas and preventing erosion. Here, decks create level areas while boulder, logs and a dense planting scheme does the rest.
